Therapeutic exercise for intervertebral hernia of the lumbar

20.07.2021

It occurs in most patients with diseases of the spine. occurs primary or secondary. In the primary lesion, a high load affects the spine, a person makes a sudden movement or lifts a heavy load that even healthy discs cannot handle. Secondary hernia occurs in people with pre-existing diseases of the spine: osteochondrosis, scoliosis, chronic trauma. An effective and atraumatic way to get rid of a hernia of the lumbosacral region is physiotherapy exercises (exercise therapy). Properly performed and regular exercise therapy keeps all parts of the spine in good shape, distributing an even load, improving trophism and preventing the progression of the disease.

In adults, the intervertebral or lumbosacral region hinders movement, provokes pain, constant discomfort when walking and sitting, therefore it is most difficult to cope with this disease for people with sedentary work, diseases that do not allow active time, and keep the body in good shape. These factors not only interfere with treatment, but also often cause protrusion of the lumbar disc.

Exercise therapy helps the patient to relieve tension, reduce the load on the lower spine and maintain the disease without the need for surgery.

Symptoms and treatment of vertebral hernia

Physical education and other conservative methods is to remove the symptomatic complex, and for this you need to know exactly what is being fought for a long time.

It is manifested by the following symptoms requiring treatment:

  1. Restriction of movement in the lumbosacral region: manifested by the destruction of the disc and the cessation of its normal function;
  2. Pain syndrome: occurs against the background of compression of the nerve roots with high pressure in the disc. This symptom relieves minimally invasive surgical treatment, but daily gymnastics for several minutes relaxes the muscles of the affected spine and relieves pain for a while;
  3. Neurological disorders, limb numbness, muscle atrophy: this manifestation requires physical activity to prevent progressive muscle atrophy.

Back exercises should be an integral part of the treatment of the lumbosacral spine, even in the case of surgery. The advantage of inclusion in exercise therapy is safety for patients in case of contraindications to surgery or spinal disease at an early stage of the formation of the pathological process.

back pain exercises

The symptom of pain constantly accompanies the patient with. This segment accounts for the greatest load, because the hernia fetters the patient and interferes with the usual actions. You need to take care of your back not only at the time of the exercise, but throughout the day. The patient should keep his back straight, sleep on an orthopedic mattress and walk more time, taking walks between sedentary work.

You can get rid of the pain of a hernia by doing the following exercises for the back:

  1. I.P. lying on your back. Bend the left leg, raise the right leg, clasp it with your hand and pull in the direction of the head. Hold this position for 10 seconds and relax. Repeat throughout the day up to 5 times;
  2. I.P. lying on your back. Bend your knees, grab one knee with your hand and press your leg to your stomach. Hold in this position for 15 seconds, relax;
  3. I.P. on my knees. Standing on one knee, pull the leg back, resting your palms on the knee of the other leg;
  4. I.P. standing. At arm's length, bend over to the table and touch the support with your hands, then tilt your head down as much as possible, stretching the spine.

Such simple exercises for a hernia of the lumbar spine will help relax the muscles and remove stiffness, eliminating pain. You need to repeat the exercises for the lumbosacral region several times a day, alternating light and more complex movements.

Spinal Stretching Exercises

Correct posture is an integral part of the treatment of pathologies of the lumbosacral region. The diseased spine gives its load to other segments, which leads to a curvature in the thoracic or cervical region, therefore the entire back must be influenced by gymnastics.

Physical therapy for correct posture includes the following exercises:

  1. I.P. lying on the stomach. Leaning on your hands, raise your torso without lifting your legs. Stay in this position until discomfort appears, relax;
  2. I.P. lying on the stomach. Arms extended above head, legs straight. The head and legs come off the ground and rise to the maximum. Repeat up to 5 times, relax;
  3. I.P. On knees. The back bends down and is held in this position for up to 10 seconds, then straighten the back and repeat the exercise.

Exercise therapy includes exercises for all muscle groups of the back, therefore, with a hernia of the lumbosacral region, one should not forget about the thoracic and cervical segment.

Features of physical education treatment

Patients with hernia can combine exercises aimed at strengthening muscles, relaxation, stretching with yoga. Yoga is especially useful for patients with severe pain symptoms, where even simple exercises are difficult and increase soreness. Swimming in the pool, walking and practicing meditation can increase the effectiveness of treatment.

Rules for exercise therapy for pathologies of the spine:

  1. At any stage of the disease, a minimal injury can provoke a complication of a hernia, therefore the first rule of training is that the exercises are performed on a soft mat, the back is protected by clothing;
  2. Exclusion of sudden movements and turns: if the exercise involves twisting without prior preparation, this is dangerous and should be removed;
  3. The selected complex must be divided into several approaches, which are performed at intervals of several hours;
  4. It is recommended to master proper breathing during gymnastics, which increases the effectiveness of classes.

Exercise therapy is useful and has a therapeutic effect, but is not suitable for everyone, therefore, you must first consult with your doctor. Even if performed correctly, there is no guarantee of recovery, so you always need to be ready for the appointment of a radical
